Enjoy touching the abundance that the earth gives us, the smell, the sound, the rhythm... the calm and the joy for the soul of what makes so much sense. Picking the chestnut, peeling it, roasting it, fresh from the forest. The almond, peel it, dry it. The walnuts, remove the wet skin, aerate them to preserve them. The olives, gather them and, when there are enough, take them to be crushed (we are mad about building a mill here... it will come soon ; ) The fruits of the hawthorn or hackberry: eat them instantly, so delicious! The flowers of cherry, hawthorn, almond, peach, orange blossom, plum... put them in water in the sun and the moon and drink the perfume and the principle of Bach Flowers. Lavender for bouquets for cupboards, decoration or infusion. Laurel for that touch of Mediterranean cuisine. Bees: their flowers for salads, their peas or for stews. Oregano, lemon balm... hmm! Quinces, pears, plums, oranges, lemons, figs, grapes... all the gifts of the earth, the moon and the sun that, with a little pruning, and the nourishment of what falls and gathers and decomposes on their roots, give and give and give... so much colour, smell, taste and juice, so much life. A financial sense? Maybe yes or maybe no. Ha ha, last year we called the olive harvest ‘olive therapy’... because, while laughing, doing simple maths it became clear that it was much more profitable to buy oil from the supermarket! And use the time for something more ‘economically profitable’. Harvesting in this way takes soooo much time compared to industrial harvesting.... If you do the numbers, it would cost less than one euro per hour! We laugh so much. Some people might think that it doesn't make sense, that it is better to let the fruits fall and to buy something packaged from the supermarket. Well, without detracting at all from other products, for us the benefits for body and soul that something sung, picked and selected with so much care, good company and joy brings, simply cannot be compared. The sense of something that has been made with one's own hands, to the sound of the season, in communion with everything, as clean vessels of the rain of abundance that nature gives? How much would it cost to buy that, if a ‘real’ price were put on it, by the hour, to all the natural and human equipment synchronised to make it? And what about the health benefits, which make a doctor much less necessary. In the end, it makes a lot of economic sense ;)
